How to superclean your cars Windshield

The one thing you look at most when you are sitting in your car is the windshield. And if you are the one who is driving, then a clean windshield will definitely help you. Because, a dirty windshield is not only an eye-sore, but it's even dangerous and fatal in some cases. It can minimise your visibility and can even cause accidents. So, would definitely want to keep your windshield neat and clean. In my previous blog, I have already told, how to clean your windshield from inside. In this blog I will mainly talk about cleaning your windshield from outside. So the steps are :

1. Clean with a glass cleaner.

2. Claybar the windshield.

3. Wash the windshield again.

4. De-grease it.

5. Add a fresh layer of wax to protect it and smoothen it.

And the things you will need are :

1. Microfiber cloth or 100% Terry Towel. ( 3 pieces )

2. Glass Cleaner ( Colin )

3. Clay Bar (3M Blue )

4. Applicator Pad ( Meguiar's )

5. Carnauba Wax ( Formula 1 Carnauba Wax )

6. Ethyl Alcohol ( Spirit of ether )

A well lit place is best for cleaning your car, but, sunrays are hell. So find out a place, which is not under direct sunlight, but you get a good visibility. And, assure yourself that the windshield is cool to touch.

Spray the whole windshield with a glass cleaner & take a clean and soft Microfiber cloth. Wipe down the windshield in one direction ( downward ). Once you have wiped down, take a fresh micro-fiber cloth and wipe it sidewise to make sure, there isnt any haze on the glass.

Now, spray the glass cleaner on one portion at a time and clay down the surface with your clay bar. This time too, you would want a uni-directional movement.

Clay down the whole surface and then wash it again with glass cleaner. And wipe it down with a fresh micro-fiber cloth. After wiping it down, dry it sidewise once more, to ensure there isn't any haze. Because any haze or dirt, present now will show up after completion and you don't want that.

Now, you have actually cleaned up your windshield well. It looks good and even feels good. But, its still not as smooth as it was when you took it out of the showroom for the first time.

So, grab the bottle of ether, wet a cloth with it and apply it on the windshield one portion at a time in a circular motion.

What it will do is, it will de-contaminate the glass and will strip down any old wax or Rain-X possibly present on the glass. After de-greasing the windshield, take the dry cloth to buff it off and remove the haze.

Then, take the bottle of wax, shake it well, and pour some of it on your applicator pad. You can use Rain-X, but personally I prefer the wax to Rain-X, because it smoothens the glass much more and helps in water to pass over quickly.

Apply the wax in a circular motion and let it dry for fifteen minutes. Then, take a fresh cloth and buff the wax off. Once you have finished buffing, take a fresh side of your cloth and buff it in the opposite direction in a uni-directional motion.

And repeat the same process on all your glasses.

Now, your windshield is perfectly clean and smooth to touch. After doing this once, just maintain it with glass cleaner and wax on a regular basis.
